Dance India Dance Winners List

Long before Dance Plus became a household name, Dance India Dance (DID) set the template for Indian dance reality television. Premiering on Zee TV in 2009, the show — produced initially by UTV Software Communications and later by Frames Production — introduced India to a new generation of choreographers and dancers under grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty, with judges Remo D’Souza, Geeta Kapoor, and Terence Lewis anchoring the panel across its early seasons. Here’s a complete look at every season’s winner.

Season 1 (2009): Salman Yusuff Khan

The show’s debut season introduced audiences to Salman Yusuff Khan, who auditioned with a Latin-American style duet performance alongside friend Alisha Singh. Competing under Team Remo Ke Rangeelay, Khan went on to win the season, with Singh finishing as runner-up. The win launched Khan into a long career as a choreographer and mentor on later dance reality shows, including subsequent seasons of Dance Plus.

Season 2 (2009–10): Shakti Mohan

Season 2 gave the industry one of its most recognizable names in Shakti Mohan, who won under Team Terence Ki Toli with a striking, body-painted performance styled as a jungle-dwelling creature alongside partner Kunwar Amar. Mohan would go on to become one of Indian television’s most consistent dance mentors, later serving as a team captain on multiple seasons of Dance Plus.

Season 3 (2011–12): Rajasmita Kar

Rajasmita Kar, competing under Team Geeta Ki Gang, won Season 3 after an emotionally resonant duet performance with Abhik Banerjee in which the pair portrayed an elderly couple — a routine that reportedly moved the judging panel and highlighted Kar’s acting ability alongside her technical skill.

Season 4 (2013–14): Shyam Yadav

Known by his stage nickname “Crazy Legs,” Shyam Yadav won Season 4 as part of Team Mudassar Ki Mandali, standing out for his distinctive, high-energy leg work throughout the competition.

Season 5 (2015): Proneeta Swargiary

Proneeta Swargiary, originally from the Bodoland Territorial Region in Assam before her family relocated to Delhi, won Season 5 under Punit Pathak’s team, “Punit Ke Panthers.” Her performance to “Hoto Pe Bas Tera Naam Hai” became one of the standout moments of her run on the show.

Season 6 (2018): Sanket Gaonkar

Sanket Gaonkar took home the Season 6 title — along with the show’s “Taqdeer Ki Sunehri Topi” trophy and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh — at a finale held in Mumbai. Sachin Sharma and Piyush Gurbhele finished as first and second runners-up respectively, each receiving their own cash prizes. Gaonkar credited the show’s team environment, describing his journey from his early days with Master Mini Ke Master Blasters through to the win.

Season 7 (2019): Unreal Crew — DID Battle of the Champions

The seventh season rebranded as DID: Battle of the Champions, introducing a regional format that grouped contestants into teams like North Ke Nawabs, South Ke Thalaivas, East Ke Tigers, and West Ke Singhams. The season was hosted by Dheeraj Dhoopar and Karan Wahi, with a judging panel featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bosco Martis, and Raftaar.

The Unreal Crew, a group act specializing in tutting and animation styles under North Ke Nawabs (mentored by Bhawna Khanduja), took the title. I Am Hip-Hop finished as runner-up, with Kuldeep & Pranshu and Mukul Gain rounding out the top five as second and third runners-up.

Final Thoughts

Across seven seasons and a full decade, Dance India Dance did more than crown winners — it built the foundation for an entire generation of Indian choreographers. Names like Shakti Mohan and Salman Yusuff Khan didn’t just win their seasons; they went on to shape the next wave of dance reality shows as mentors and judges themselves, making DID arguably the most influential show of its genre in Indian television history.
