Who Won Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition?

Kyle Imao, a 12-year-old from Marikina, was crowned the one and only Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition champion on 18 February 2012. The grand finale, called The Live Cook-off, was held at Treston International College, where Kyle secured the win with an overall score of 91.8 points — beating his closest competitor by just 0.7 points.

Kyle’s winning dishes were an oyster ravioli and an Asian fusion shrimp and scallops plate, both of which had the judges raving about his technical skill and creativity for someone so young. For his win, Kyle took home a ₱1,000,000 cash prize plus ₱1,500,000 worth of culinary scholarship.

The Judges & Host

  • Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo — beloved Filipino actress, served as the show’s host
  • Fern Aracama — professional chef
  • Rolando Laudico — professional chef
  • JP Anglo — professional chef

All three judges evaluated the young contestants’ dishes throughout the competition’s many challenges, from team cook-offs to individual elimination rounds.

How the Competition Worked

Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition began with an enormous pool of hopefuls from across the Philippines — Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao — eventually narrowed down to a Top 60, then further whittled through qualifying rounds, team challenges, and eliminations down to the final four who competed in the live cook-off finale.

Adult MasterChef Pinoy Edition: A Related (But Separate) Show

It’s worth noting that ABS-CBN also produced an adult version, MasterChef Pinoy Edition, which aired shortly after, from November 2012 to February 2013 — also for just one season. That edition was won by JR Royol, a 29-year-old band vocalist from Benguet, who defeated runner-up Carla Marcaida in the finale. Interestingly, it shared the same host (Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo) and the same three judges as the Junior edition.
