Who Won MasterChef India Season 2?
Shipra Khanna, a single mother from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, won MasterChef India Season 2 on 1 January 2012. She was 29 at the time and became one of the most successful winners in the franchise’s history. She took home the ₹1 crore prize money along with her own cookery show on StarPlus.
The finale challenge required Shipra and runner-up Shazia to prepare a three-course signature meal, then lead a team of junior chefs from Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai in cooking the same dish for around a hundred blind-tasting audience members. Shipra won the audience vote 53 to 47.
Since her win, Shipra has become one of India’s most recognisable celebrity chefs. She has authored nine cookbooks, opened her own restaurants (including H.O.T. – House of Taste in Ahmedabad and The Darzi Bar & Kitchen in Delhi), and gone on to host culinary shows internationally in the USA, UAE and Canada.
MasterChef India Season 2 Contestants
The season had a strong lineup of home cooks competing for the title. Notable names included:
- Shipra Khanna – Winner, from Shimla
- Shazia Khan (Salma Shazia Fathima) – Runner-up, later became a chef and businesswoman
- Joseph – Second runner-up, won ₹5 lakh and a job offer at Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai

- Bijou Thaangjam – Contestant from Imphal, Manipur, who later became an actor (known for Mary Kom and Shivaay)

Interestingly, Shazia’s generosity became a talking point after the finale — she decided to split her runner-up prize money with fellow contestants Vijayalakshmi and Rajendra, at Akshay Kumar’s suggestion, since Joseph had already secured his own prize.
